Congratulations to the NFWS Members whose paintings have been selected to win awards in our 2026 Fall Members Watercolor Exhibition

Our judge Laurie Warren’s judge’s statement and individual comments about the award  winning paintings are shared below. The award winners can now be seen at the WNY ArtistsGroup Gallery, One Linwood Ave.,  Buffalo, NY from October 9 through November 13, 2026. It’s a stunning show, beautifully juried, and hung. Thank you to Barbara Billittier, and Gerry Genson, our NFWS Exhibition Committee, and to Don Siuta of the WNY Artists Gallery.

Again, congratulations to all artists who submitted their paintings. Keep painting!

Laurie’s opening comment:

I would like to thank the NFWS for letting me jury this magnificent exhibition. Congratulations to everyone who entered, who were accepted and the award winners.  The best way to grow as an artist is to put your work out there to be seen and to see your art hanging with your peers.

First Place Award – Catherine O’Neill’s “Just a Minute”.The top award, when I judge a show, is that one painting I wish I had painted. This piece tells a story, with  top skills.

Second Place Award – Anitha Balachandran’s “Vintage Reflections”. I am not normally drawn to automotive paintings. This one made me stop to take a closer look. Beautifully done.

Third Place Award – Robert B.emisderfer’s “St. James Inlet”.The horizontal passings make this painting a strong piece. Colors are spot on gorgeous.

Honorable Mention – Deb Meier’s “Trumpet Solo”. The facial expression in this painting is great. You can feel him straining to reach his notes.

Honorable Mention – Martha Rogala’s Joyful Sea Breezes”. Give me a cute dog anytime! The fur and eyes are great, but that NOSE!

Board of Directors Award – Andrea Holden’s “Vincent’s Crow”.This painting caught my eye on the first walk-thru. Great colors and a fun design.

Janet Ide Award – Paula Borkowski’s “Looking Up at Mobile at Botanical Gardens”.Great design and an ambitious subject. Beautifully painted.

Judge’s Choice Award – Brenda Cretney’s “Sheep”.Good composition and the sheep are very well painted.

Judge’s Choice Award – David Gardner’s “Art Patron”.This painting made me smile. I love all the colors in her skin.

Judge’s Choice Award – Larry Nagode’s “Hell’s Half Acre.” Rich colors and a peaceful scene.
